New King’s First Days

As the first rays of sunlight filtered through the windows of the council chamber, I stood before a long, ornately carved table adorned with the crests of the noble families of Diermana. The chamber’s heavy doors creaked open. Representatives from the families of Barons Lila, Elyana, Orin, Ulfrik, and Adara, as well as some of the previous king’s advisors, walked into the room with a murmur of hushed conversations.

I cleared my throat, and silence fell like a heavy curtain. “Ladies and gentlemen, we are gathered here to form a new Council, one that will embody the unity and diversity of our great kingdom. I have chosen each of you for your wisdom, your experience, and your dedication to the people of Diermana.”

As I spoke, I met the eyes of each potential council member, pausing to acknowledge their presence and the unique strengths they brought to the table.

I proceeded to name each individual I had selected for the key roles within the Council. “For Minister of Defense, I choose Lord Valthor of Ironhold. For Minister of Trade, Lady Althea of Suncrest. For Minister of Infrastructure, Lord Eamon of Blackstone. For Minister of Justice, Sir Gavric of Redwood. And for Minister of Culture, Lady Isolde of Greenmeadow.”

In my mind, I noted their connections to the barons: Ulfrik’s uncle, Adara’s sister, Orin’s brother, Elyana’s cousin, and Lila’s sister, respectively.

Additionally, I chose to retain some experienced members from the previous council, such as Lady Farina of Stormier as Minister of Agriculture, Lord Thorne of Morrebon as Minister of Infrastructure, and Lady Faye of Dargina as Minister of Education.

The room came to life with applause and congratulations as the new ministers were named. However, it became apparent that the crucial role of Minister of Finance had yet to be mentioned.

So I said, “I have chosen Lady Maria, my wife, who currently serves as the Master of Finance in Ellanduin, to be our new Minister of Finance. Under her guidance, our kingdom will thrive and prosper.”

The Council members exchanged curious glances, as many of them were not yet familiar with Maria, given that she was not from Diermana.

“However,” I continued, “until she can make her way to Dargin and formally assume her new role, I will be overseeing the kingdom’s finances personally.”

“Also, our kingdom needs a strong and innovative leader to guide us in the realm of science,” I said. “So, I have chosen my other wife, Becca, who currently serves as the Master of Science in Ellanduin, to be our new Minister of Science. With her expertise and passion for knowledge, I have no doubt that she will help usher in a new era of discovery and innovation for Diermana.”

The Council members looked intrigued by this announcement, especially because Maria and Becca were both my wives. But they then nodded, showing their approval. With the appointment of a capable Minister of Finance and Minister of Science, we had assembled a formidable team of advisors to help lead our kingdom forward into a brighter and more prosperous future.
